Enrollment Procedure
Public Pre-K is a two-step process. First you Enroll your child in the SVSU School District by completing the SVSU Student Enrollment Packet, and then you must Register your child with the Pre-K Provider of your choice. Each program offers Pre-K a little differently (i.e.: 2 day, 3 day, 4 day or 5 day slots, half day or full day). Families will need to reach out to individual providers to determine which program best meets your child’s and family’s needs.
The SVSU Early Education Program provides high quality Pre Kindergarten in partnership with regional early childhood centers. In accordance with Act 166, children ages 3, 4, or 5 by the SVSU eligibility date of August 31st are eligible to enroll in a ten hour, publicly supported Pre K program either at a prequalified prekindergarten program in a public school, or a prequalified private provider or Head Start that partners with the SVSU to provide Pre Kindergarten services.

Enrollments will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, as of the date that the completed enrollment packet and supporting documentation is received. Since the Federal IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) requires the Local Education Agency to offer a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) within the Least Restrictive Environment for resident children found eligible for special education and related services, the district will prioritize prequalified kindergarten education seats for children with IEPs (Individual Education Plans). If there are more students who want to enroll in prekindergarten than the number of seats available in any prequalified prekindergarten program, the district and private providers will meet with the local Building Bright Futures Council to develop a plan to expand capacity.
- To enroll in Pre K, a completed SVSU enrollment packet and supporting documentation must be submitted to the Early Education Program office at 181 Orchard Road, Bennington.
- As Act 166 allows parent choice in Pre K placements, parents must also complete an application and receive confirmation of registration into their program of choice in order for the child’s enrollment to be complete.
